More about SSL certificate
What is the SSL protocol?
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a security protocol that provides privacy, authentication, and integrity to Internet communications.
When to use SSL certificates?
The SSL protocol protects websites and visitors. An online store or website that exchanges confidential information (card numbers, personal numbers, data, email addresses, etc.) needs SSL certificates to ensure authenticity and encryption.
What types of SSL certificates are there?
There are three types of SSL certificates: Domain Validated (DV), Organization Validated (OV), and Extended Validation (EV), certificates are issued by authorized Certificate Authorities (CAs). CAs are trusted third parties that issue TLS/SSL certificates by verifying identity details of a website owner.
Domain validation (DV) is the lowest level of validation and confirms that whoever requests the certificate controls the domain he is protecting.
The validation of the organization (OV) verifies the identity of the organization (eg business, non-profit or government organization) of the applicant.
Extended validation (EV), verifies the identity of the organization. EV represents a higher standard of trust than OV and requires more rigorous validation.
